Connection Tips from our Psychology Team

This week we kicked off our first posts discussing connections, isolation and loneliness. We were given a few tips from our psychology team. They talked about our mental and physical health. Kerrie talked about how feeling disconnected and feeling lonely is a strong predictor of our health and well being. That in fact loneliness has as much impact on your health as smoking 10 cigarettes a day!

Alicia talked about how connection is a basic need for our physical and mental well-being. In such busy and isolated times it’s the little things that can make us feel more connected.

Lyndal talked about how people are naturally social. By maintaining social connection we can lower feelings of anxiety and depression, increase our self-esteem, help us regulate our emotions and improve our immune system.

We hope this introduction to Connections, loneliness and isolation have helped you a little bit. To understand the importance of connections and to help you reflect on your own connections, your feelings regarding loneliness and isolation. We hope that this introduction has helped encourage you to speak up and reach out to those around you, if you are feeling lonely or isolated.

This coming week we will be hearing from some local women business; Kate Wade who is the Manager of the Exchange and has her own business One More Thread, Jacqui Martel, Director of Dubbo Area Nursing Service, Mea Campbell founder of ConnectedAU and our own Tanya Forster CEO of Macquarie Health Collective and Macquarie Valley Family Practice.

They will be sharing their insights on isolation, loneliness and connections as women in business, the challenges and how they navigate being in business and all that is involved.

We are really looking forward to hearing from them. We hope you enjoy reading what they have to say.

Until next week :)
