Closing Mindful May
So we have reached the end of Mindful May, my hope is this month has been a beginning for all of us.
So many of the posts from my colleagues reflect mindful activities that help us think about the opportunities we are given each day to be mindful, to fully engage in what we are doing at that moment. I notice the posts have been about simple things that often bring pleasure, a quiet smile and a quiet mind.
If we took time each day to watch a sunset, we would notice it offers us a different experience each day with colours and clouds and occasional fiery sundowns. Noticing the changes that come with the seasons may be more gradual, but I am sure we have all noticed the sting of the cold wind on our faces at some time these past few weeks.
Notice those people around us who are truly mindful. Children who do honestly dance like no one is watching, love like they have never been hurt, sing like no one is listening and live like heaven is on earth. Grandad’s, young people and old who are mindful are a gift, enjoy them and learn from them.
Connect with your friends and family; make a call, write a letter. Enjoy some time with your partner, no phones, leaving work at the door, just listening and engaging with them in the moment.
All these gifts are given freely; we only need to learn how to accept them.
My take away this month, mindful eating. I am the queen of eating a sandwich while face booking, then wondering where it went! Maybe I need to take some wise advice and eat mindfully…… then face book!
My gifts for this month were seeing two perfect kangaroo paw prints in the dirt when I opened the gate, and this beautiful rose which has been slowly opening before my eyes this month.
