Hate Exercise?

Want to exercise but hate the thought of it?

What if we told you, you could can exercise every day without even knowing you are exercising?

Did you know that we continuously burn energy throughout the day?

It is called non-exercise activity thermogenesis. This is the energy expanded for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sport-like exercise.

Hate exercise?

No worries, according to non-exercise activity thermogenesis, we can stay active simply by completing everyday activities that promote physical exertion.

How?

Our metabolism is constantly working throughout the day to burn energy. When we complete higher levels of physical exertion, our metabolic rate increases.

Here are 12 quick tips for how you can sneak in physical exertion without even going to a gym or calling it “exercise”:

  1. Park several meters away from work. This will increase your steps per day by allowing yourself to walk to and from work.

  2. Stand when you can. Standing increases your metabolic rate compared to sitting or resting. For example, standing when cooking

  3. Take the stairs over the elevator

  4. Cleaning the house e.g. vacuuming or cleaning the bathrooms

  5. Gardening/weeding

  6. Walking/riding around the zoo

  7. Playing with your kids e.g. playing ball games

  8. Riding bikes with your kids

  9. Walk the Dog

  10. Chopping/collecting wood for the fire place

More intense challenge:

  1. Take some family or friends hiking in the Warrumbungle National Park

  2. Kayaking or paddle boarding down the local Macquarie River
