Tanya Forster - Psychologist
Tanya began her Psychology career working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. While she now works with both children and adults of all ages, her background in Child and Adolescent Mental Health has provided her with expert knowledge and skills in working with this demographic. Tanya has particular expertise in working with childhood anxiety disorders. Tanya has trained in play therapy and therefore is skilled in working with children of younger ages, in addition to adolescents. Tanya is also able to provide comprehensive developmental assessments for young children, bringing together clinical information and the results of psychometric testing (such as IQ tests) to inform diagnosis and treatment planning. These assessments are particularly useful in diagnosing and developing treatment plans to support children with possible Developmental Delays, Learning Disorders, or Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Tanya is also skilled in working with adults and older persons with a variety of needs. She works with a number of mental health related concerns from across the life span, including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, drug and alcohol issues, and personality disorders. Tanya has a particular interest in working with adult anxiety disorders. Tanya also has an interest in health psychology, and therefore works collaboratively with other health care providers to optimise positive outcomes for patients with a variety of chronic health concerns, including asthma, diabetes, and gastrointestinal disorders. Tanya also works collaboratively with the Collective's Dietitians to support individuals with eating disorders, as well as other food, weight, and body image issues.
As well as working for Macquarie Health Collective, Tanya teaches at The University of Sydney School of Rural Health. Tanya is also an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society.
