How the happiest man on earth gave us some perspective.

Every week we set about putting ideas together for our blog, we talk about the latest topics, how as a practice we are striving towards providing health care to our region and what we should put in our weekly newsletter. We hope to help keep you updated, informed and inspired. Each week we look for a Ted Talk that we have enjoyed listening to, or one that we would like to, when we get the time.

This week we came across the Ted Talk presented by Eddie Jaku - the happiest man on earth, and a Holocaust survivor who emigrated to Australia, to settle down and raise his family.

We felt so moved listening to this Ted Talk, coming out of a week where we have talked about resilience, what struggles we have been through, how we have gotten through them and what we have learned about ourselves. It has been an incredibly tough time for so many people, but also how lucky we are!  We cannot imagine what it would have been like for Eddie and the many others during that time.

It is so incredible to think that through all his struggles he has chosen happiness, to wake up happy, to be happy and to share happiness. No small feat.

After listening to his Ted Talk, these words of wisdom were lasting with us.

Hate is a disease that may destroy your enemy, but may destroy you in the process

Please do not walk in front of me

I may not be able to follow

Please do not walk behind me

I may not be able to lead

Just walk beside me and be my friend

We find it so humbling that Eddie is able to keep this attitude through everything and we hope that we can also choose happiness every day and help others to be happy as well.

Eddie passed away this October. What a legacy to leave the world.
