Resilience, Hope and Reflecting on our Roadmap Back to Recovery

This week has brought us a lot of hope. Hope that soon we will start seeing a slow but steady approach to our new normal and goodness that has been welcome news. We still have a bit to go, but with a combined community, effort I am sure we are going to be fine.

In last week's blog post we started talking about resilience and we would like to continue that conversation.

We asked our Psychologist Lyndal about her thoughts on resilience.

  • Develop good and healthy relationships. Being listened to by people who care about you builds resilience.

  • Acceptance that change is a part of living. That nothing stays the same. In fact, we have shown ourselves time and time again that we have adapted to many changes.

  • No crisis is insurmountable, but for a while we may not be able to see it. We may need time to break it down into manageable parts.

  • Keep moving in the direction of your goals or dreams, even if some days your steps are smaller than on other days.

  • Remain hopeful. You are here, and you know that good things will happen again.

Over the next week we are going to talk to people in our community about resilience. How their lives have changed, What has helped them through? What have they learnt about themselves?

We pose those questions to you.

  1.  How has your life changed?

  2. What has helped you through?

  3. What have you learnt about yourself?

I wonder, if we had buried a time capsule at the beginning of the Covid outbreak, then in the middle, then again now as we moved out of another lockdown, what would we find if we opened it in 20 years? What would it show?  We would like to think, like so many times before, the human race evolved, grew and learnt from their experiences.  We hope that one day that is how we look back on this time, with a positive view that even though times were extremely difficult, we looked after each other, learnt and grew.

I have endured, I have

Been broken, I have known

Hardship, I have lost myself.

But there I stand, still moving

Forward, growing stronger

everyday.
