Relaxation and Resilience
We have been talking a lot about relaxation and resilience at Macquarie Health Collective over the past week. Sharing ideas and our knowledge to help each other, but also to create some resources for you to use to help you relax and build resilience.
We will be joining up with some local people that will help us with some relaxation stretches, that will hopefully ease those stressed out muscles. We are really looking forward to this area. We know the struggle of working from the kitchen table or the kids desk can take its toll.
We are living through some very difficult times, working from home, trying to be the carers for our family members, trying to remain positive and provide a good example for our children. Distance, which in the past has been something relatively easy to overcome, has now become such a stressful aspect for many, that are now not able to travel to see their loved ones, or to help other family members by sharing the load. We have seen so many stories of people stuck in different states by border closures and travel restrictions, yet the human spirit adapts and becomes more versatile.
We love this quote from Sherri Mandell:
Resilience is not about overcoming,
but becoming.
While researching resilience we came across The Resilience Project, based out of Melbourne. Their mission is “to teach positive mental health strategies to help people become more happy”. Why?
1 in 4 adolescents have a mental illness
1 in 7 primary schools kids have a mental illness
1 in 5 adults will experience mental ill-health throughout the year
65% of adolescents do not seek help for mental illness
These are pretty significant statistics, which many of us are probably all quite aware of. TRP break up their approach to building resilience into:
Gratitude
Empathy
Mindfulness
Over the next few weeks, with the help of our psychology team, we are going to look at these. We hope you enjoy following us and are able to gain some insight into resilience and how you can implement that into your life.
