Tackling our health

With Women's Health Week over again for another year, it has really led us to think about how we view our ‘health’, what is a healthy lifestyle and how we are conditioned to look at what society considers a ‘healthy body’. There is a lot of conflicting information out there and with social media and advertising so accessible and present in our lives, it is quite easy to stray from what medicine considers healthy and what society considers healthy. We shared this quote in our newsletter this week and thought about how spot on it was.

“Being a healthy women isn’t about getting on a scale or measuring your waistline.”

- Michelle Obama

And fellas, this includes you too!!

So let's look at your health! We are very lucky at Macquarie Health Collective to have an amazing nurse, doctor and allied health team to help guide us through understanding what healthy is and to help us achieve that.

Our doctors can lead you through health assessments relevant to you that help you understand your body and then BONUS, they can refer you to our in-house dietitian, if that's what you need :)

We are very lucky in our region to have access to quality health care. Our GPs can refer you to an Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Nutritionist and the list goes on. So if we aren't utilising these providers, why not??

We did a quick google search of why we do not try to access healthcare and this is what it gave us:

  • Limited appointment availability, office hours.

  • Geographic, clinician shortage issues.

  • Transportation barriers.

  • Limited education about care sites.

  • Social determinants of health barriers.

We reviewed the list and lucky for you, none of the above apply!! So again, let's talk about your health.

If you are concerned about your health in any way you can make an appointment with our GPs to start your journey to being the healthiest you. Our Nurse and GP team can perform various health assessments to help you understand your body and make the necessary changes. These include: Healthy heart checks, Health Assessments for people aged 45-49 years, 75 years and older and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

These assessments help our GPs pick up anything that might be impacting your health. By carrying out these health assessments, our GPs will help you make realistic goals that are achievable and lasting and the best thing… These are all bulk billed, so you don’t have to pay for them.

There really isn’t an excuse, is there??

We hope, reflecting on Women's Health Week and approaching Healthy Heart Week, that you consider your ‘health’ and try to make it a priority in your life. You wont regret it!!
