Feeling thankful and hopeful
One day you will
tell your story of how
you overcame what you
went through and it will
be someone else's
survival guide
-Brene Brown
We found this quote this week and thought how perfectly it resonated with so many of us. It has been another heavy week in our region, we have seen continuing cases of Covid-19 with concern for the Delta variant, we have seen the mental health statistics of our young people come out of Victoria and we have seen another week of lockdown which included fathers day, women’s health week and R U OK day. Yet we have once again come through the other side, finding inventive ways to celebrate a day, to commemorate women and a reminder to check in with our family and friends. We have been challenged by our representatives to use our saturday as ‘Swab Saturday’, we have seen the percentage of vaccinated people increase and while we will continue to be in lockdown for a bit longer, we have seen that our Premier has a plan to ensure we will get to enjoy the finer things in life again, like getting our hair done!
We have a lot to be thankful for!
However, it is still very overwhelming for many people. In our weekly newsletter ‘mind matters’ we spoke to our Psychologist Lyndal to provide us with some techniques that we can incorporate into our everyday life. For many people working from home, juggling home schooling, it is near impossible to fit in another thing. For those that are working from home, or are isolating, an option to leave the house, is either not an option or the thought of it is debilitating.
We have put below our first of a few self-soothing techniques that you can incorporate into your everyday mundane chores.
IN THE SHOWER!
HERE’S WHAT TO DO…
Under the shower, focus on the warm sensation of the water as it gently falls onto your head and runs down your body.
Acknowledge the temperature of the water as it permits your muscles to relax.
Listen to the sound of the water as it soothes your brain and allows any thoughts and feelings to be washed away.
Engage in the soft feeling of the soap, as it massages your scalp, and moisturises your skin.
Be mindful of the sensation of your hands passing over your skin.
Make your movement slow and purposeful – give yourself time to feel the sensations and acknowledge them.
Do you recognise any of the soap’s aromas? Breathe them in deeply, and breathe out slowly as you allow your whole body to relax.
When you have finished showering, take a moment to appreciate the soft dry towel as it presses against your smooth, wet skin.
Follow the sensations as you move the towel around your body.
Take a deep breath and breathe out slowly.
Appreciate the natural feeling of cleanliness and relaxation before you move on with your day.
We hope you give this a try at home. Stay safe everyone.
